The Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt met with World Bank Advisor on climate change Dr. Stephen Hammer, were they discussed World Bank cooperation during the Climate Summit and the need for innovative and blended mechanisms for Finance, reducing risk and promoting green investments

The latest African Energy Outlook report by the International Energy Agency states; that universal energy access could be achieved in Africa by 2030 through $25bn a year, which amounts to only 1 per cent of total global energy investment and that Renewables could provide 80% of the generation capacity required for the transition.
جاء في أحدث تقرير عن توقعات الطاقة الأفريقية صادر عن وكالة الطاقة الدولية؛ أن الوصول الشامل إلى الطاقة يمكن تحقيقه في إفريقيا بحلول عام ٢٠٣ من خلال ٢٥ مليار دولار سنويًا ، وهو ما يمثل 1 في المائة فقط من إجمالي الاستثمار العالمي في الطاقة وأن مصادر الطاقة المتجددة يمكن أن توفر ٨٠٪ من قدرة التوليد المطلوبة لعملية الانتقال.

Egypt invites African Development Bank for the Egypt International Cooperation Forum, to be held in September, two months before COP 27. The forum brings together governments, development partners, the private sector, civil society and think tanks, to showcase successful practices and champion new initiatives that balance sustainable development and environmental needs.
تدعو مصر البنك الأفريقي للتنمية لحضور منتدى مصر للتعاون الدولي، الذي سيعقد في سبتمبر، قبل شهرين من مؤتمر الأطراف السابع والعشرين. ويجمع المنتدى بين الحكومات وشركاء التنمية والقطاع الخاص والمجتمع المدني ومراكز الفكر، لعرض الممارسات الناجحة والمبادرات الجديدة التي توازن بين التنمية المستدامة والاحتياجات البيئية.

Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met with representatives of French Development Agency, the parties discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in Climate-smart practices for sustainable agriculture. Providing technical support and developing an action plan together with the ministry of agriculture on temperature-tolerant crops and sustainable crops was proposed.

President Sisi also urged the international community to fulfill it’s pledges towards developing countries, to achieve food and energy security and socio-economic wellbeing for the African continent.

Egyptian Foreign Minister and COP 27 President Designate Sameh Shoukry met Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank yesterday in Luxembourg. The parties discussed building up on their shared commitment towards Climate Action. The European Investment Bank is one of the leading financiers of climate investment across Africa and Egypt has been the largest country of operation for the European Investment Bank outside Europe in recent years.

Ambassador Mohamed Nasr at a meeting in the German city of Bonn meant to lay the groundwork for the Egyptian conference said that pressure to turn decades of climate negotiations to implementations is higher than ever for Egypt’s presidency this year, given the geopolitical food and energy crisis. Nasr said that it is time for a reality check as the international community has agreed that climate change poses an existential threat to human systems and the natural world.

Preety Bhandari, Senior Advisor in the World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Global Climate Program and the Finance Center. Preety says that champions from both sides need to bridge the gap in the following months leading up to November’s Climate Summit in regards to Loss and Damage controversy. Preety added that there is an opportunity in upcoming events such as Petersberg Dialogue in July and the G-7 meeting later this month.

Despite global warming’s negative impact on oceans and the key role oceans play in soaking up atmospheric CO2, the seven seas had barely no mentions within ongoing UN climate talks until recently. A coalition of nearly 100 nations supports a cornerstone provision that would designate 30 percent of the planet’s land and ocean as protected areas. The 5-day Conference in Lisbon will aim to put Oceans on the agenda for Climate and Biodiversity official negotiations later this year.
على الرغم من التأثير السلبي للاحترار العالمي على المحيطات والدور الرئيسي الذي تلعبه المحيطات في امتصاص ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي، إلا أن البحار السبعة بالكاد لم تذكر في محادثات المناخ الجارية للأمم المتحدة حتى وقت قريب. يدعم تحالف يضم ما يقرب من ١٠٠ دولة شرطًا أساسيًا من شأنه تعيين ٣٠ في المائة من اليابسة والمحيطات على كوكب الأرض كمناطق محمية. يهدف المؤتمر الذي يستمر 5 أيام في لشبونة إلى وضع المحيطات على جدول أعمال المفاوضات الرسمية بشأن المناخ والتنوع البيولوجي هذا العام.
