Egypt to inaugurate monorail project during the COP27

Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir followed up on the preparations for the trial operation of the monorail system in which it will travel from the workshop to the New Administrative Capital (NAC) ahead of its launch during the activities of the COP27 that will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh this November.

Egypt and the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) agreed on Saturday that they would organise an international parliamentary conference on the sidelines of the COP27 climate change summit due to be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh between 6 and 18 November.

The agreement was reached at a meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, between speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives Hanafi Gibali and speaker of the Geneva-based IPU Duarte Pacheco.

World Bank Group President David Malpass lauded the strong ties with the WB member states, including Egypt, pointing out that the bank looks forward to working with Egypt towards a successful 2022 global climate conference, COP27.

 In the countdown to COP27 Sharm El-Sheikh has been the scene of frenzied activity, with 30 national projects expected to be completed within the next few days.

Work is also continuing on developing the commercial market area, including the installation of electric car charging points.

A new smart taxi system is also being established. The city, says Fouda, now has 717 taxis with a tracking system and an internal camera inside each car.

During the conference period, 260 gas and electric buses will roam Sharm El-Sheikh, producing zero emissions and offering passengers Internet access.

The Francophonie Institute for Training in Sustainable Development (IFDD) is launching a call for projects with a view to selecting three innovations to combat global warming. Interested young Francophones have until 16 October 2022 to submit their initiatives online.
