The COP28 President-Designate Dr. Sultan Al Jaber has vowed that COP28 will drive international action on climate and health, with the first-ever Health Day and climate-health ministerial at a COP acting as a ground-breaking opportunity to determine steps towards equitable, climate-resilient health systems and mobilize vital investment in the sector.
- Speaking alongside the Director-General of the World Health Organization and President of Malawi, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber vowed that COP28 will put health at the center of climate discussions and mobilize investment for equitable, climate-resilient health systems.
- In keeping with this commitment, the COP28 Presidency will join with the WHO and several countries to host the first-ever Health Day and climate-health ministerial at a COP.

The COP28 Presidency arrived in New York for the UN General Assembly to advance its Action Agenda and consult with world leaders on how to deliver progress at COP28 in the UAE. Dr. Al Jaber used his first public intervention of the visit to raise the importance of putting health at the center of climate diplomacy and the need to mobilize investment for equitable, climate-resilient health systems.

COP28 Presidency rings in new era of climate finance on second day of UN General Assembly
تفتتح رئاسة مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة المعني بتغير المناخ (COP28) حقبة جديدة لتمويل المناخ في اليوم الثاني للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة
COP28 President-Designate, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, today rang the famous opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange to help raise awareness of climate finance in the US business community, as he began a program of activities on the second day of the United Nations General Assembly.
This week, the COP28 Presidency is attending the 78th session of the General Assembly, and New York Climate Week, to advance its Action Agenda and consult with world leaders from politics, business, and other sectors on how to deliver progress at COP28, being held in the UAE at the end of this year.

During New York Climate Week, the COP28 Presidency reissued its call for increased global action to address the interlinked challenges across climate change and the food system, including production, consumption, trade and resilience, and invited Parties to sign the COP28 Declaration on Resilient Food Systems, Sustainable Agriculture, and Climate Action and align this commitment in their climate action plans.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has met with Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in New York,
In the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the UNGA78, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and several agenda items at the United Nations General Assembly.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah and the Prime Minister of Somalia also reviewed several issues of mutual interest and developments on both regional and international levels.
Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the exceptional brotherly relations between the two countries, expressing his wishes for the progress and prosperity of the Republic of Somalia and its people.

Climate Week is an important opportunity to renew the call to increase the commitments made by governments, companies and various organizations, to advance climate action efforts at the global level, as the session is chaired by Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Twenty-Seventh Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, President-designate of the United Nations Conference. United Nations Climate Change Action (COP28).
Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed that the session focused on addressing losses and damages, as the ministerial consultations aim to mobilize political participation to enhance consideration and understanding of the potential outcomes at the (COP28) conference in the United Arab Emirates.
